There was a week where I was running around all the malls desperately looking for a dry brush. That was the same week where I was also searching for a Spa that offers lymphatic drainage facials. You may ask as to why I was obssessing about 2 very different things. But what see to be 2 different things do have something important in common.


Dry brushing when done correctly and regularly stimulates the lymphatic system. When our lymphatic system gets stimulated our immune system gets stronger and it gets easier to detox. A lymphatic drainage facials rids our faces of edemas. There are occassions when we wake up in the morning looking bloated. Having lymphatic drainage facials helps get rid of that problem. It also clears sinuses. :)


Dry brushing is simply exfoliating your skin using a dry, natural bristled brush. Note that your skin has to be dry as well.


This technique promotes healthier skin by removing dead skin cells on the surface. Once the dead skin cells are removed skin cell production begins. Like what I said earlier, the benefits of dry brushing are not just skin deep as it helps in detoxification and it increases blood flow.


Dry brushing starts with selecting the right brush. Look for natural bristled brushes. I found mine in Dubai Mall, its a drugstore on the lower level. Forgot the name. I got it for AED 15.00 (USD +/- 4.00) I like it coz it has a handle and you can also detach it from the handle.


Start with the bottom of your feet, move the brush in soft, circular movements towards the heart. After the bottom, move to the top of your feet.


I suggest that you work on each leg, doing the back and then the front, all the way to your buttocks. You may want to avoid the delicate inner thigh area.


Once you are done with the lower half, you can now start dry brushing your palms, back of the hand, forearm and biceps. Do not forget to move to in soft circular motions towards the heart.


Having a long handled brush is great for dry brushing you back. Start with your lower back, moving up.


The last portion will be your stomach, you have to start dry brushing from your abdomen and work your way up. Again, steer clear from the sensitive areas.


Once you are done, you can rinse and shower as usual and enjoy cleaner, silkier and smoother skin :)
